Recruiting Process once Vacancy Closes
The timeline of the recruitment process can be quite varied for different positions depending on a number of factors. Some of these include: the number of applicants that apply for the position (increasing the amount to review and shortlist), and the processing of background checks etc. Below are the standard steps Council follows when recruiting:
- Step 1: Review and shortlist applications.
- Step 2: Conduct Interviews.
- Step 3: Conduct relevant assessments (i.e. Pre-Employment Medical examination, Criminal History Checks / plant/ machinery driver testing).
- Step 4: Successful applicant selected & notified verbally, followed by a letter of offer.
- Unsuccessful applicants who were interviewed will receive a phone call and letter.
- Unsuccessful applicants who were not interviewed will receive a letter.
- Step 5: From here the onboarding Process commences and the successful applicant starts their employment with Council.
Working for Council
The South Burnett Region is ideally situated just 2 - 3 hours’ drive to Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast. The region is renowned for its great wine, gourmet foods and recreational facilities such as Lake Boondooma and Yallakool tourist parks.

Council's conditions of employment are governed by various industrial instruments, including Certified Agreements (Officers and Field Staff), in-house Policy and Procedure documents, and the Queensland Local Government Industry Award - State 2017.
Council's Employee Code of Conduct (PDF) is an important document and outlines the set of standards and behaviours that guide the way in which local government employees approach their work. This document forms part of the employment contract for any new employee.
Labour Hire Agencies
If there are no advertised roles in Council that match your skills and experience, you can register with a labour-hire agency. Council regularly accessed CTC Employment Services for temporary placements in a cross-section of work areas.
