Pinking Up the South Burnett
The entire South Burnett has been asked to “pink it up” for the month of October in support of Breast Cancer awareness.
The ribbon was cut on Tuesday 1 October to officially launch the pinking up campaign for the month of October 2024. The pinking up funds are specifically for the McGrath Foundation and breast cancer nurses.
Sue Cox, the South Burnett Breast Cancer Nurse was at the launch to receive a $5000 cheque from Barry and Leanne Krosch to start the campaign. Sue is the only breast care nurse in our region and currently has around 100 patients that she is supporting through their breast cancer journey.
Mayor Duff said “it was simply wonderful to receive a cheque from community champions Barry and Leanne Krosch to start the campaign. Sue provides a vital service for our region and it is important that we can raise funds and awareness to ensure that this important role can continue into the future.”
The whole community is being asked to come on board, wear pink, decorate shops and towns, even decorate the farm gate, the mailboxes and run events to raise important funds. The pinking up October initiative was started by Mayor Duff and Deputy Mayor Danita Potter a few years ago and it has really taken off over the years with the Proston Golden Spurs Hotel painting their roof in the first year of the promotion.
Cr Potter has asked everyone to check out the Pinking up South Burnett Facebook Page to find details on how donate. “Please post your photos, advertise your events and share your stories to encourage others to come on board and make a positive difference for this vital service for our region”, Cr Potter said.
There are 233 McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia and 143,000 families have been supported since 2005. In the last year alone there has been 294,799 hours of McGrath Breast Care nursing for individuals and their families.
