Brisbane Street drainage works complete

Back

South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Cr Brett Otto is pleased to advise that drainage and road upgrade works along Brisbane Street (between Drayton Street and Hospital Terrace), Nanango are complete.

The works, funded through the Queensland Government’s 2019-21 Works for Queensland program (W4Q R3) and Council’s 2019-20 Capital Budget, commenced 20 February 2020 and were completed on 20 April 2020.

Mayor Otto explained, “Council construction crews from Nanango and Kingaroy worked together to excavate, lay footings and install the larger culverts and pipes. The project was the result of planning undertaken by the previous Council, including Mayor Campbell and Cr Roz Frohloff in conjunction with Council’s Infrastructure Department. Mayor Otto recognized the work done by all involved in the process as a significant development for the Nanango community.”

Works included the replacement of existing crossroad pipes with larger culverts and the road section raised and widened. Due to roadside drainage improvements various property access pipes requiring upgrades were replaced. The affected area was then back filled, stabilised and the pavement re-laid and sealed, with new kerb and channel installed.

Mayor Otto said, “It is anticipated that these works will improve drainage issues and ensure access to the Nanango Hospital remains open not only during the wet season, but in times of heavy rainfall.”

Mayor Otto also took the opportunity to thank the State Government for funding to progress job sustaining maintenance and minor infrastructure projects relating to assets owned by Council which would improve wet weather access for the community.
