Increase to Council's Waste Disposal Fees

Back

In order to reduce the amount of waste being generated and landfilled, and to put Queensland on par with other mainland States, the Queensland Government introduced the State Waste Levy on 1 July 2019 as a fundamental part of the new waste strategy for Queensland.

A primary component of the State Waste Strategy is the levy applied to all waste classifications which is proposed to increase by $5 on July 1 of each year, up to and including the 2021-22 financial year. While an increase in the State Waste Levy was due on 1 July 2020, to assist businesses in dealing with the financial impacts of COVID-19, the Queensland Government deferred the scheduled $5 increase of waste levy rates to 1 January 2021.

In order to account for the impending increase in the State Waste Levy, at the November Ordinary Council Meeting, Council resolved to increase Council’s applicable Waste Disposal Fees effective from 1 January 2021 for the remainder of the 2020-21 financial year. Affected waste classifications and their corresponding disposal fee at Council’s Waste Facilities as at 1 January 2021 are as follows:

Waste Classification

Disposal Fee

Construction and Demolition (C&D)

$126.50 per tonne / per m3

Commercial and Industrial (C&I)

$190.50 per tonne / per m3

Commercial Asbestos and >10m2 Domestic Self-Haul Asbestos

$190.50 per m3

<10m2 Domestic Self-Haul Asbestos

$95.00 per m3
