Meeting success with Government Ministers
Mayor Brett Otto has said government meetings with Minsters at Queensland Parliament this past week has firmed up strategy to secure positive outcomes for the South Burnett area.
The Mayor met with several government Ministers during his city visit, including the Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities, the Hon Mark Furner MP.
“It is important as a council we get in front of the decision makers and let them know where we are heading and how the government can help us get there,” Mayor Otto said.
“I took the opportunity to remind key Ministers on what is happening in the South Burnett and what the current Palaszczuk government can do to help,” he said.
Mayor Otto said his meetings were during sitting week whilst parliament was abuzz with activity.
“Minsters took time out of their busy schedule to listen to what Council is trying to achieve at a cellular level in the South Burnett area,” he said.
The Mayor discussed agriculture, policing and transport and main roads, as well as other local government issues with key decision makers at the highest level.
“Road investment will always be important to this council area and I want South Burnett to be ‘top of mind’ when Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey MP, is thinking of fund distribution.
“I was pleased Minister Bailey took the time to listen to my concerns and discuss opportunities, like the ‘Great Southern Rail Trail’ we are advocating for,” he said.
“I am planning to be a regular visitor to the halls of parliament and knock on their doors as much as needed to get outcomes for the South Burnett,” the Mayor said.
