Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program

Back

South Burnett Regional Council is working hard to curb illegal dumping, through the Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program (LGIDPP).

The LGIDPP has funded a full-time Compliance Officer who will work across the three local government areas of South Burnett Regional Council, North Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council to investigate illegal dumping, raise awareness within the community and develop long term strategies to reduce waste.

In order to preserve our diverse and unique region, South Burnett Regional Council offers free household and green waste disposal at our 17 transfer stations to residents. South Burnett residents are encouraged to utilise these facilities, as Council resources and time are often exhausted due to the removal of illegal dumping and correctly segregating waste.

Waste portfolio lead Councillor Roz Frohloff said the programme provides an opportunity for Council to give perspective on the impacts that illegal dumping has on the South Burnett community and how these resources can be better utilised

Councillor Frohloff said, “the Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program will bring education to the South Burnett community and empower them to take action in reducing the burden illegal dumping has environmentally, economically and socially on our region and its residents.”

“By involving the community and emphasising their accountability in compliant waste management, we can redirect resources spent on illegal dumping towards more sustainable and productive initiatives for a better quality of life for our residents and visitors,” said Councillor Frohloff.

Illegal dumping and incorrect waste disposal issues are taken seriously by Council. Illegal dumping can result in individual offenders facing fines of more than $2,000 and corporations facing fines of more than $10,000.

This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government.

See it. Report it. Stop illegal dumping by reporting it to Council’s Waste and Environment team on 1300 789 279, 4189 9100 or info@sbrc.qld.gov.au.
