Opera Queensland adds Kingaroy to 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' Regional Tour
Opera Queensland and South Burnett Regional Council present Are You Lonesome Tonight at Kingaroy Town Hall on Tuesday 15 June 2021.
Are You Lonesome Tonight is a celebration of Opera and Country music, featuring arias and songs by Puccini, Verdi, Slim Dusty, Troy Cassar-Daley and Dolly Parton to name just a few.
Featuring a cast of three of Australia’s finest young singers including Irena Lysiuk, Marcus Corowa and Jonathan Hickey, Are You Lonesome Tonight celebrates all that Opera and Country music have in common - artists, composers and librettists across both artforms understand the power of storytelling sharing many common themes of profound love, heartache, and triumph in the face of adversity.
Councillor Danita Potter said this production demonstrates why opera is still relevant today, thanks to Opera Queensland’s legacy and vision.
Councillor Danita Potter said, “Are You Lonesome Tonight is an original concept, supported by a talented cast that demonstrates Opera Queensland’s continued ambitious programming as they celebrate their 40th anniversary.”
“COVID-19 has brought its challenges, but particularly on the performing arts sector being one of the first industries to close and one of the last to open due to the pandemic. I encourage the South Burnett community to join in and be part of this musical event that is guaranteed to bring joy to our region,” said Councillor Potter.
Are You Lonesome Tonight Director Laura Hansford said the tour is equal parts a celebration of opera and of country tunes, forming a creative and eclectic ensemble of iconic music.
“Our premise for Are You Lonesome Tonight is just to play good music. There is something for everybody, we love that audiences will get a mix of both opera and country music and a bit of something in between,” Ms Hansford said.
