South Burnett shoppers set for garage sale nirvana

Back

From plants to push bikes and violins to vinyl, shoppers are sure to find all that and more when the Garage Sale Trail returns to South Burnett over the next two weekends.

Happening on Saturday 13 November to Sunday 14 November and Saturday 20 November to Sunday 21 November 2021, Australia’s festival of pre-loved stuff promises a smorgasbord of practical, quirky, collectable and colourful secondhand finds for shoppers across the nation and online.

Mayor Brett Otto said the council-powered event was a fun and social way to promote reuse, reduce waste to landfill, meet the neighbours and make or save a few bucks.

“The two garage sales registered locally will see around 506 kilograms of good stuff saved from landfill. That’s already a huge win in my book,” he said.

“Shoppers can snag a guilt-free bargain knowing that they’re contributing to a more circular economy. That’s one where stuff is kept in use for as long as possible, delivering the highest value it can, for as long as it can,” said Mayor Otto.

For the first time Garage Sale Trail has partnered with PayPal to enable cashless payments at this year’s event. That means sellers with PayPal accounts can provide QR codes for touch-free payments for their shoppers if selling in-person or use PayPal.Me payments on the world wide web for online sellers.

In-person garage sales currently have the green light in Queensland with some restrictions which you can find on the Garage Sale Trail website. Sellers will have safety measures in place and will be adhering to all Queensland Health guidelines.

Residents can also head online to host or shop at virtual garage sales around the country, all from the comfort of their own home.

Check out the sales happening locally here and nationally online at the website.

Garage Sale Trail is made possible locally by South Burnett Regional Council.

Sellers can register up until the weekend here.

ABOUT GARAGE SALE TRAIL

Garage Sale Trail is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded by Sydney mates, Darryl Nichols and Andrew Valder. It seeks to educate Australians on the importance of reuse, and the need to take individual responsibility for the impact of our consumption habit whilst also building stronger, more connected and more resilient communities.

Now in its tenth year, Garage Sale Trail has grown from a grass roots idea in Bondi Beach where it started in 2010 to being powered by over 115 councils nationally.

In 2021, the event will be available online as well as through physical garage sales where social distancing rules and COVID-19 safety will be adhered to.
