External Media Release - South Burnett rest area upgrades

Back

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is upgrading two rest areas across the South Burnett Regional Council area from November 2021 to June 2022.

The rest area facilities are being improved to encourage motorists to take breaks while driving to manage fatigue and reduce the risk of crashes as well as improving disability access to the facilities.

Construction will include the upgrade of lighting, road surfacing and pedestrian pathways linking rest area infrastructure.

The following rest areas within the South Burnett region are being upgraded as part of the work:

  • Coolabunia Rest Area
  • Stuart River (Bunya Highway) Rest Area

During construction some rest area facilities will be unavailable for motorists for short periods.

The majority of works will be completed within the rest area with minimal impacts to traffic.

Where required, traffic control signs will be erected to direct traffic through the works.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads thanks you for your patience and understanding during the delivery of these works and apologises for any inconvenience they may cause.

For further information regarding these works, please contact the Southern Queensland Regional Director via email at SQR_Communications@tmr.qld.gov.au.
