Aerial Weed Survey

Back

South Burnett Regional Council is conducting low level helicopter survey across the region between the 1st and 11th of March 2022 between 8.30 am and 3.00 pm.

Low level aerial survey of both private and public land will assist in identifying new infestations of priority weed species and inform future strategic management actions.

Low level helicopter survey will be conducted over the following catchment areas:

  • Barkers Creek, Barambah Creek, Boyne River and Stuart River

Aerial weed surveys are part of South Burnett Regional Council’s proactive approach to determine the distribution and abundance of key weed threats that may have spread to a greater extent through this season exceptional growing conditions combined with recent flooding events experienced across the region.

Detecting new weed infestations early will allow the targeting of limited resources toward the greatest benefit. Council plays a key role in coordinating responses that prevent further weed spread in collaboration with all stakeholders. Conducting ground and aerial survey forms part of building a stronger weed biosecurity system across the South Burnett Region.

Council Officers are very conscious of minimising disturbances to livestock, so pilots will take great care to avoid them wherever possible.
