South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) update #4

Back

The LDMG met this morning at 8am to review the overnight rainfall and to receive reports on the activities of Emergency Services and Council crews that worked through the night.

The LDMG advises that the South Burnett has received 50mm to 125mm across the region last night with significant run off occurring.

Currently a number of streams such as Barambah Creek have dropped, however significant rises are expected later today and are already occurring upstream with Bjelke-Petersen Dam now expected to reach 130% at around 6pm this evening. The dam will continue to spill under normal operating conditions for some time.

All roads that are currently closed will remain closed due to the changing conditions. The Bunya Highway and Burnett Highways will see water levels rise again and are not expected to re-open until Monday afternoon at the earliest. Krebs Bridge on the Bunya Highway has visible damage and may not re-open until later in the week. Further updates will be provided as roads and bridges are inspected for damage.

Please do not drive through flood waters and do not drive past road closed signs even if the water is below bridges.  We would request that a close eye is kept on children so they do not play in the floodwater.  For a full list of road closures go to:
