Have Your Say on Kingaroy Memorial Park and WJ Lang Memorial Pool Master Plan
Residents of the South Burnett have the opportunity to have their say on the future of Kingaroy’s Memorial Park and the WJ Lang Memorial Pool.
Over the next few months, a Master Plan will be developed to guide the future development of the South Burnett’s much-loved park and pool.
Mayor Brett Otto says that Council is committed to investing in the things that matter to our community, and Memorial Park and the pool provide an opportunity to develop a space that will enhance the liveability of our communities.
“Memorial Park and the pool have an important history and hold valuable significance for our community. The land was donated by Mr A Youngman in 1919 to be used as a public park and war memorial site.”
“When it comes to memorials, our Band Rotunda and Stones of Remembrance are very unique, and our swimming pool was the first Olympic swimming pool built in Queensland.”
“We want to invest in these sites to ensure they continue to provide quality opportunities that our community can be proud of for years to come. It will be important that we balance this special history with creating a contemporary and attractive space that our community want to visit and are proud of”, he said.
Sport and leisure planning consultants, Otium Planning Group are leading a team of specialist consultants to assist in developing the master plan.
Cr Otto said, “We want to hear from our community to understand what they would like to see at the park and pool in the future.”
“A comprehensive community engagement approach will be undertaken to ensure residents and community groups have ample opportunity to provide input,” Cr Otto said. “This will include meetings with key stakeholders, workshops with representatives of local schools, focus groups, interviews with park users and a community survey.”

Once the initial consultation and planning phase has concluded, conceptual designs will be developed for Memorial Park and the pool and further consultation with the community will occur.
