Flood Recovery Breakfast Raises $1100

Back

Thursday's Flood Recovery Breakfast hosted by the South Burnett Regional Council raised over $1,100 for rural charity BlazeAid to assist farmers affected by recent floods.

The breakfast was attended by Mayor Brett Otto and Councillors Henschen, Jones, Potter and Schumacher. Other breakfasts are scheduled for other towns in the region.

“It’s great to see the community come together and support people whose lives have been turned upside down by recent weather events,” said Mayor Otto.

Kingaroy hairdresser Studio for Hair offered cheap haircuts to breakfast patrons while children were entertained with games, balloons and lolly jar guessing. Local Nanango artist Ina Patterson has donated two beautiful landscapes for money board prizes.

Council staff produced a barbecued hot breakfast, selling 150 burgers to a supportive crowd.

BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. Working alongside the rural families, their volunteers help to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed.

Mayor Otto praised BlazeAid for its work, saying that their volunteers help to lift the spirits of country people facing adversity. “Supporting BlazeAid through these breakfast fundraisers is another way Council supports our local communities.”
