South Burnett Regional Council released a preview of their 2019 Destination Marketing Activity at South Burnett Unpacked on Monday 5 November in Nanango.

Council’s ‘Discover South Burnett’ have developed a simplified Visitor Economy Action Plan for 2019. The plan has been built from past successful destination marketing activities, informed by industry feedback and designed to increase visitor numbers to the region.

The Visitor Economy Action Plan sees the marketing calendar shift to a calendar year, enabling planning and campaign development to be completed in the low season ready for implementation as the cooler weather kicks in. The plan defines a full 12-month schedule, with marketing activity proposed to peak in the middle of the year to maximise reach and lead time for the region’s attractive spring weather, large event activity and the intersection of key target markets.

Further to these changes, Discover South Burnett also propose cooperative marketing packages for events and tourism businesses to leverage the increased South Burnett specific activity.

Key planning documents, including the 2019 marketing campaign calendar will be released at the General Meeting of Council in November as part of Economic Development’s September Quarterly Activity Report.

Cr Danita Potter enthused that the changes “make sense.”

“Tourism operators and event organisers can expect to see a lot more structure and opportunity to leverage Council’s destination marketing spend. We have not seen Discover South Burnett lead regional marketing in this way before,” she said.

“Council presented a preview of 2019 at South Burnett Unpacked 5 in Nanango and we are very much looking forward to open consultation with industry at the Tourism Review on Thursday 8 November in Kingaroy,” added Cr Potter.

The Tourism Review will be held at 5pm Thursday 8 November at the 1913 Chambers situated behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre. An overview of 2017-18 including activity, results and recommendations from surveys will be discussed. The Tourism Review is free and all are welcome to attend.
