National Reconciliation Week 27 May – 3 June

Back

The South Burnett Regional Council acknowledges National Reconciliation Week, 27 May to 3 June,

as a time for all Australians to learn about our ancient and more recent shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to think about how as a regional community we can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.

The theme of National Reconciliation Week 2022 is “Be Brave. Make Change.”

Reconciliation Australia describes this as “a challenge to all Australians — individuals, families, communities, organisations and government — to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.”

South Burnett Regional Council Mayor, Brett Otto, stated that “National Reconciliation Week should be a time of reflection, a time to engage in ‘truth telling’ about our past and work with First Nations peoples across our region to foster a brighter future for all.”

“We have a close relationship with all First Nation groups, in particular our sister Council at Cherbourg and will always recognise the importance of working together,” said Mayor Otto.

Councillor Kathy Duff, in her capacity as Council’s Indigenous Affairs portfolio holder, said that the South Burnett Regional Council has worked closely with our First Nations residents on the process of reconciliation and will continue to do so as a key priority for our region.
