Road Damage and Work after Recent Rain

Back

Further road network damage has been experienced across the South Burnett region due to the rain received over the last weeks.

In response, the South Burnett Regional Council has requested its fourth activation since last November of funding through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

Currently, five roads are still closed throughout the region with eleven still affected by weather events.

Deputy Mayor Gavin Jones said that Council was following well established processes in responding to road damage.

“Roads crews are trained and well equipped and erect appropriate signage.  Current closures are re-inspected twice a day.”

“We ask for the public’s patience and understanding if they see a damaged road undergoing a short term repair.”

Cr Jones stressed that initial repairs are only temporary prior to inspection that forms the basis of a claim for Commonwealth funds that will enable the repair to be completed to a high standard. “Residents are asked to not rush to judgement when they see the initial temporary stage of repair. The road damage has to be inspected so we can claim the money to fix it properly. We will be back to do a proper job.”

“Council staff are responding with great effort to the challenges posed by recent weather events, and I thank them wholeheartedly.”

Cr Jones asked residents to understand the processes involved in claiming Commonwealth funds to restore flood damaged roads. “I can assure residents the Council is doing everything possible as quickly as possible to make their roadways safe.”
