Hot Coals Risk Fires at Waste Disposal Facilities

Back

Council waste disposal facilities have been at risk of fires due to incorrect disposal of hot coals.

Last week at Kingaroy Waste Facility, the Waste Facility attendant noticed an area of the landfill smouldering. Upon investigation, it was found that a large amount of hot coals had been placed in the general waste area. The hot coals were located near green waste, resulting in the smouldering.

Coals must be cold and without any heat before disposing in a wheelie bin or at a waste facility.

Council reminds the public to safely enjoy fires and fireplaces this winter.

Waste disposal facility users are encouraged to report any incidents or concerns to the Waste Facility attendant or directly to Council on 07 4189 9100.
