South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group – Update 1 – Move to Stand Up

Back

The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has today moved to Stand Up in response to locally heavy rainfalls over the past 24 hours.

Falls between 50mm and 110mm have been reported in and around Nanango, Kingaroy, and North West through to Proston.

Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue responded to a number of swift water incidents and currently the Twin Gums Caravan Park has been successfully evacuated.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast further rain of 20mm to 40mm over the next 3 to 6 hours which will likely lead to further road closures and road damage.

Council crews are currently working on the network and the community is asked to be patient with road repairs and re-openings over the coming days. Some areas of the network are likely to be re-damaged given this is now the region’s 5th weather event in the past 8 months.

Should you be required to evacuate, we recommend, in the first instance, you attend to family/friends. If you are unable to evacuate to family/friends, Council has opened an evacuation centre at Nanango Cultural Centre should you need a safe place to evacuate.

Please ensure if you do evacuate to a safer location, you keep your families notified of your location.

South Burnett residents are advised:

  • In a life threatening emergency, call Triple Zero 000
  • For sandbagging / leaking roofs / roof damage, download the “SES Assistance QLD” app available on Android and Apple devices if phone lines are busy or call 132 500.
