Wondai Industrial Estate Stage II Design Funding Approved

Back

Design funding of $40,000 has been approved by Council for the Wondai Industrial Estate Stage II, with potential funding options to deliver works to be considered at a later date.

Cr Kathy Duff, who moved the successful motion, said, “I am really pleased that Council has supported the funding of the design of stage two of the Industrial Estate. The feedback from the businesses in the Estate is that they need both Burrow and Kemp St to be two way for the general efficiency of their operations. I am keen to see the costings so that we can budget for the upgrade as the Wondai Industrial Estate is a vital economic driver for our region.”

Recent capital works in the Wondai Industrial Estate were funded and delivered by South Burnett Regional Council to allow for traffic flow re-configuration, road rehabilitation and the gazettal of oversize vehicle access.

From Council’s planning and consultation within the Estate, it was found that a number of businesses required oversize vehicle access for B Doubles over 19m long in accordance with the Heavy Vehicle National Regulation 2013. The existing infrastructure did not allow for the safe movements of these vehicles throughout the estate under two-way operations requiring an increase in the roadway area to help them manoeuvre safely.

The original estate was built prior to the regular use of vehicles like B Doubles and was not designed to cater to their needs. The solution resulted in oversize vehicles being able to operate in a one-way clockwise operation through the majority of the Estate to minimise vehicular conflicts and maximise safety for all motorists.

Pre-construction for Stage II will establish the costs involved in bringing two more streets back to two-way, which would then be further considered by Council. Local businesses have been consulted and Council will continue to engage with stakeholders.
