Bunya Highway and Booie-Crawford Road Intersection Upgrade
South Burnett Regional Council received notification from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)
that due to the prioritisation of other projects in the Wide Bay Burnett area, this upgrade had not commenced.
However, works are now expected to start in the coming days and take about four weeks to complete, weather and conditions permitting.
TMR is upgrading the Bunya Highway and Booie Crawford Road intersection (the main intersection to the south) to provide a dedicated right-turn lane. The project involves pavement widening and sealing to accommodate the turning lane as well as the installation of guidance and warning signage.
TMR has advised that the project will:
- improve intersection safety and reduce potential for and severity of crashes in this high-speed (100km/h) environment
- improve safety by separating through and turning traffic and minimising the potential for rear-end crashes.
The South Burnett Regional Council has been notified that construction is scheduled to start in the coming weeks and take four weeks to complete, conditions permitting. Works will be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. Motorists are reminded to observe all warning signage when approaching the site and be aware of changed conditions, such as reduced speed limits and queued traffic, and adapt their driving behaviour accordingly.
TMR advises that nearby residents may experience some noise and dust impacts during construction and that every effort will be made to minimise impacts for residents and motorists.
