STUNNING LOCAL FUNDS RAISED FOR CANCER
Mayor and Councillors this week congratulated the fundraising efforts of the South Burnett Relay for Life organisation in raising $1.7m over the past eighteen years.
It is expected that over $116,000 will be raised this year with banking closing for the teams next week. Once again, the South Burnett far exceeded their goal.
“We’re fighting way above our weight when it comes to raising funds to fight cancer,” commented Cr Scott Henschen.
Louise Hamilton from Cancer Council Queensland said, “The South Burnett Relay for Life is one of the stand outs on the Relay for Life calendar. The big thing about the South Burnett is the year long fundraising including Ride 4 Relay, Breakfast Launch, Christmas in July, and Cricket 4 Life.”
Cr Danita Potter was the MC of the weekend function and praised all contributing teams for their efforts. “I’d particularly like to mention ‘Brooksy’s Crew’ which raised the most funds and in turn won the ‘Best Fundraising Team’ trophy.”
“A lot of work, time and sacrifice goes into these events. It’s quite a commitment and it is a sign of a healthy and supportive community when so many pitch in to improve the lives of others.”
“The South Burnett area has always been a high achiever when it comes to supporting its own and the Relay for Life event proves just that. Anyone who has been impacted by cancer and needing one on one support please call 13 11 20,” said Cr Potter.
Relay For Life is an exciting community event that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council Queensland’s research, prevention, and patient support services. Relay is a chance for the South Burnett/Kingaroy community to support those going through a cancer experience, recognise and celebrate cancer survivors, carers and to honour and remember loved ones lost.
