Blackbutt CBD and Les Muller Park Redevelopment
South Burnett Regional Council is pleased to advise that the Blackbutt CBD Streetscape and Footpath Upgrade including the upgrade of Les Muller Park is now nearly complete.
This project has been funded under the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and South Burnett Regional Council Capital Works Program for 2021-2022 & 2022-2023. The project budget is $1,605,000.
The project has revitalised the Blackbutt CBD and Les Muller Park precinct with new infrastructure including kerb and channel, textured and coloured footpath areas, bike racks, pedestrian seating, park picnic shelters and settings, upgraded playground soft fall and fencing, improvements to the Ken Allery vehicle display building, landscaping, and trees. The design incorporates reflections of the Blackbutt town heritage and connection to the timber industries.
The project also incorporates timber planter boxes that were constructed by local woodworkers. Red iron bark timber used in the planter boxes and shelter in the street centre was harvested and milled locally.
The refurbishment of the town clock is scheduled for completion by January 2023.
Mayor Otto described the park upgrade as a natural extension to the CBD redevelopment. “Both projects are a part of Council’s rolling program of town centre upgrades across the region being implemented to enhance the liveability of our communities and support the growth of our tourism sector.”
“Blackbutt is ‘coming into its own’ as a popular lifestyle choice and tourist destination. The redevelopment work being completed by Council will help fuel this growth for years to come,” said the Mayor.
Deputy Mayor Cr Gavin Jones said that the growth and excitement around Blackbutt and Benarkin deserved the money to be spent in the main street upgrade and Les Muller Park. “We needed this to accommodate future growth.”
Cr Jones said that the project would be fully completed with the installation of a mural on the Blackbutt Hardware wall facing Les Muller Park to capture the history of the establishment of the towns thanks to a grant from Stanwell.
