Volunteers celebrated at the recent Volunteers FAMIL

Back

South Burnett Regional Council Volunteers from Council’s Visitor Information Centres and Museums, recently enjoyed a Volunteers FAMIL including tours of South Burnett attractions.

Providing a chance for them to socialise, relax and enjoy this beautiful region.

Council’s Visitor Information Centres and Museums could not operate without the hard-working volunteers that help to promote the South Burnett region to many visitors daily.

The Volunteers FAMIL, held quarterly, provides the perfect opportunity to thank Council’s wonderful volunteers and showcase what the South Burnett has to offer.  The Volunteers can take this knowledge and share their experiences with visitors and locals alike.

The recent FAMIL started with the beautiful Taabinga Homestead, which was built in 1846.  Hosted by Libby who provided insight into the history of this majestic homestead, a tour of the grounds and a delicious homemade morning tea.

Lunch was provided at the Kingaroy RSL and then back on the bus for a tour of Bethany Cottages.

John Bjelke-Petersen was an entertaining host, providing history on the property and the

Bjelke-Petersen family.  Afternoon tea would not have been complete without Lady Flo’s famous pumpkin scones.

After a day of information and plenty of food, it was time to head home with a wealth of knowledge and appreciation of this beautiful region.

Mayor Otto said “the Famil tour provided a great opportunity for our hard-working volunteers to come together and network. It also provided a wonderful first-hand insight into some of the spectacular tourist assets within our region. Most importantly, it was an opportunity for council to show our gratitude to these wonderful people who volunteer their time to support our communities.”

“I would like to thank the volunteers for their contribution to promoting our fabulous region.  Without the assistance of people like you the many benefits of the South Burnett would remain a secret.  I hear such great compliments from those who visit our Visitor Information Centres” said Cr Jane Erkens.

If you would like to be part of the Volunteers FAMIL, have a few spare hours a week, want to contribute to your community and like meeting new people, volunteering opportunities are available in the South Burnett Visitor Information Centres.
