During this term of Council, South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has completed the reworking of the Local Disaster Management Plan and sub plans, and this was carried out in consultation with key LDMG agency representatives and the District Disaster Management Group (DDMG).
The LDMG has responded to 5 weather events, responded to the pandemic with Queensland Health as the lead agency, while providing the requested assistance to Cherbourg Aboriginal Council, including the checkpoint that was deployed in that location. The LDMG holds quarterly meetings and has participated in a range of Queensland Disaster Management Training modules (including Recovery/Evacuation Centre/Disaster Coordination Centre for example) and has run its own exercise to ensure the plans are as rigorous as possible. The regular exercise and training the LDMG has undertaken and the strong support of our Disaster Management Officer has meant that our LDMG is ready and prepared for any weather event or issue that may come before it.
“Our staff have worked hard to ensure the safety of the populous of the South Burnett are able to rely on timely and correct information, to ensure that a level of preparedness is ready to respond in any event,” he said. “I would commend those who work in this area, as much of the work is outside of regular hours, requires attention and detail to ensure the best outcomes for our community.”
