Mark Pitt, CEO of South Burnett Regional Council today released details of the achievements of the last three years focusing by the Community Development group.

“Community Development work very closely with residents and offer services to improve the life of residents of our area,” he said.

Among the outcomes which have been achieved are:

The Development of the Youth Council – an initiative which encourages the younger members of our area to get involved with the decision-making processes of council and offer insight into what the youth want.

They have worked with a range of stakeholders, managing the library team and staying connected to community during the COVID-19 Pandemic and finding alternative ways to continue to offer services to library users.

They also lead the VIC’s (Visitor Information Centres) and have undertaken a Visitor Service Review, installed the imitation grass requested for the Nanango VIC. The installation of POS (Point of Sale units) in 3 of the VICs to streamline selling procedures, allowing volunteers to increase the sales of local produce and handmade items in the Kingaroy VIC, reviewed the standard operating procedure to better support volunteers whilst meeting Council’s governance framework.

Mr Pitt added, “We encourage the staff to find alternative ways to achieve what the visitors and residents request and want from the variety of services involved in the Community Development sector.”

“We are making strides in achieving great things for our region, while making them able to take opportunities to operate in an increasingly tight economic environment. Giving our staff the ability to seek these opportunities empowers them, strengthens our organisation while offering a high level of service to all,” Mr Pitt said.
