South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group – Evacuation Training

Back

As part of the Local Disaster Management Group preparations over this term of Council, Evacuation Centre training was facilitated in December 2021 by QFES and Red Cross.

This was to ensure our Council staff were trained by expert officers to ensure we can open, run and operate an evacuation centre in the South Burnett region should we be required.

As part of our Queensland Get Ready funding the Council’s disaster management team together with emergency service agency representatives held an Aged Care Forum with South Burnett and Cherbourg Aged Care residential aged care facilities.  This was a great forum and allowed the teams to discuss all things preparation, planning and evacuation discussions for the residents. The second initiative to this project was to carry out further business continuity sessions with our facilities.  This health check combines an understanding of disaster management planning and business continuity planning. Both aspects are considered to allow facilities to respond and recover in the event of a natural hazard impact to the facility (disaster management), but also to assist with preparing the facility and preventing disruption from hazards to ensure the facility can continue to function during both small and large-scale disruptions (business continuity). This aligns with the Queensland Government framework of Prevent, Prepare, Respond and Recover.
