Successful Funding for Capital Works at Wondai Waste Facility

South Burnett Regional Council is pleased to advise that the grant application made under Round Three (3) of the 2022-2024 Local Government Levy Ready Grant Program,

to carry out capital works at the Council owned Wondai Waste Facility in Wondai Queensland has been successful.

To assist local governments to meet the obligations of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 (the Act), the Local Government Levy Ready Grant Program offers funding to undertake necessary infrastructure upgrades.

Round Three (2022-24) of the grant program was targeted to support eligible local governments within the levy zone to transition sites that were not eligible for funding through previous rounds.

The project works for which Council was successful in achieving funding under Round Three (3) of this grant program entails installing a weighbridge with waste measurement software, upgrade of transfer station, operator’s cabin and traffic management infrastructure including civil and road works associated with the reconfiguration at the Council owned Wondai Waste Facility in Wondai.

Under Round Three (3) of this grant program funding, Council will receive a subsidy of 62.5% or up to $368,973.75 towards eligible project costs with the remaining cost of $221,384.25 (or 37.5%) for the project to be borne by Council. The total project cost is estimated to be $590,358.

The project works will commence in November 2023 and is expected to be completed by 30 June 2024.

Council is extremely grateful to have received the subsidy of 62.5% or up to $368,973.75 towards eligible project costs for the project from the State of Queensland through the Department of Environment and Science (DES).

The Department of State Development, Local Government, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDILGP) is administering the Program on behalf of the Department of Environment and Science (DES).
