The Ironing Maidens Present Electro House Wife

Back

Award Winning Electronic Music duo the Ironing Maidens will be bringing dance music with a difference to the South Burnett this October.

Ingeniously adapting real irons and ironing boards into electronic instruments to create breakthrough music, Electro Housewife is a playful, thought provoking, wholly entertaining experience.

“It’s a high energy mix of music, visuals, costumes, dancing and ironing puns,” artist Melania Jack explained.

“We see our show as a fresh take on house music.”

“In an entertaining way we explore feminism and domestic labour, but also we celebrate the history of technology and women in electronic music.”

The Ironing Maidens will also be offering creative workshops in electronic music making and dance in the lead up to their performance.

They will be running workshops at Saint Mary’s Catholic College but also offering community-based workshops in Kingaroy Town Hall for any one aged 12 years and up to book into.

Bringing leading performers and arts educators to tour the Wide Bay Burnett is thanks to an innovative new partnership between Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, South and North Burnett Regional Councils and CQUniversity who have been working together to develop the Wide Bay Burnett Touring Circuit. This will increase opportunities for audiences across the Wide Bay to experience diverse artforms and high quality acts as well as provide skill development opportunities for artists, young people and the wider community.

“The Ironing Maidens have previously toured to large festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival and international festivals such as Fusion Germany, Berlin Performance Art Festival,” Cr Danita Potter said.

“We are so excited to now be bringing them to the South Burnett where they will be helping to build the music and dance skills of young people in our schools as well as the wider community.”

Bookings are essential to attend the family friendly and alcohol-free performance.
