Growing Workforce Participation Funding Success

Back

South Burnett Regional Council has been successful in the second round of the Growing Workforce Participation funding.

This Growing Workforce Participation Fund project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government. This fund aims to develop partnerships with industry to build longevity and sustainability in the workforce by empowering industry and employers to support jobseekers from identified groups who experience greater disadvantage in the labour market.

Council has identified that there is a skills shortage in industries relating to Sports and Recreation and Horticulture. The $180,000 in funding received will allow employment opportunities for First Nations young people across the communities of Wondai, Murgon and Cherbourg. This program will help build the confidence and provide motivation to youth and Aboriginal people of the South Burnett region.

Applicants will have the opportunity to apply for a position at Council’s Wondai and Murgon Swimming Pools where they will gain skills relating to Pool Management and Operations. In the cooler months they will assist Council’s Facilities and Parks team along with studying for a Certificate II in Horticulture. This will be a 12-month program providing successful applicants with hands on experience and employment.

Council will advertise the positions come early November 2023 and is looking forward to working with the successful applicants.
