Santa Claus Lane winner announced

Back

“Congratulations to the 2023 Winner of the Santa Claus Lane for South Burnett Regional Council,” said CEO Mark Pitt.

The 2023 winner was a difficult decision to make, given the quality of the entries, and was made considering the increased street participation, the written submission on the entry form and the extensive local community engagement of the display. For 2023 the winner is Wondai Road, Proston.  This is the second time the Proston community has received the award, with Santa Claus Lane being awarded in 2020.

“It is continuing to be particularly hard to choose a winner, between the entries that collaborated extensively with their neighbours. We have had new participants this year with the Kumbia Community and Alfred Street Nanango being of special mention.  It was a very close second and, in the end, it was the participation of the locals that was the final determiner,” Mrs Pitt said.

The Santa Claus Lane initiative is in its fifth year and has seen winners from Wondai, Proston and Kingaroy. “We aim to increase the collaboration between neighbours and to give the children of the South Burnett an opportunity to enjoy the wonders of the season of Christmas,” Mr Pitt added.

Entries opened in November and the CEO and his wife, personally sponsor the Santa Clause Lane award to increase social cohesion in the region, along with its sister initiative Santa’s Workshop sponsored by Ken Mills Toyota.

The new award of Christmas Cottage for an individual light display will be announced on Wednesday 20 December at 9 am.
