South Burnett Australia Day Ambassador Announced

South Burnett Regional Council is pleased to announce our 2024 Australia Day Ambassador, Mr Elijah Buol OAM.

Elijah will join the South Burnett community to celebrate Australia Day by attending the Australia Day Award Presentation on Sunday 21 January 2024.

“Australia Day is an opportunity to recognise our community members who excel in their chosen field or that go the extra mile to help others and to showcase what’s great about the South Burnett. Australia Day Ambassador Elijah Buol’s presence on our regional day of celebration will make this year memorable,” Acting Mayor Gavin Jones said.

Elijah Buol is the Managing Director at Smart Answers Consulting, State Lead Migration Support Programs at Australian Red Cross and a Member of the Queensland Government's Responsible Gambling Advisory Committee. Elijah was the Director of Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, Vice-President of the Youth Affairs Network of Queensland and Managing Director of Smart Answers Consulting. Elijah established and is part of several government and not-for-profit organisational boards and advisory committees.

Since arriving in Australia as an unaccompanied minor refugee from South Sudan in 2002, Elijah has worked tirelessly to advocate for the young and disadvantaged. He is a passionate advocate who believes in justice and empowerment for all Australians to realise their aspirations and potential.

Elijah was named among Logan City’s 40 Powerful and influential People of 2021 by the Courier Mail and among Logan City’s 10 most powerful and influential people of 2019. He was the recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia, 2020 Australian National University Student Volunteer of the Year (Postgraduate) and was the 2019 Queensland Local Hero of the Year. Elijah is a true champion and community advocate.

Ambassadors become guests of honour and participate in activities as diverse as the communities they visit. The Program is one of the longest running and most successful national Australia Day programs sending high achieving Australians to over 300 community celebrations nationwide every Australia Day. Ambassadors are past recipients of the Australian of the Year Awards, sportspeople, scientists, businesspeople, actors, and community workers who contributed greatly to the community.

Elijah is proud to be an Australia Day Ambassador and looks forward to joining the celebrations in the South Burnett at the following event:

  • Australia Day Awards Presentation
  • Sunday 21 January 2024 at 12:00pm* Where: Kumbia Hall
  • The Awards Ceremony will commence at 12noon and an afternoon tea will be provided for the public at the conclusion of the ceremony from 2:00 - 3:00pm inside the hall.
