Council Announces an Increase to the 2024/25 Roads Budget

Council has doubled down on its commitment to improve the regions roads with a $20 Million construction and maintenance program that will deliver a new focus on sealed road reseals,

rehabilitation and maintenance.

The 2024/25 budget delivers a $12.7M sealed roads program including:

  • $6M for reseals and rehabilitation targeting sections of some 40 plus roads across the region including sections of:
    • Woltmanns Road
    • Hardiker Road
    • Wesslings Road
    • Ferris Road
    • Bicks Road
    • Industrial Avenue
    • North Branch Road
    • Nukku Road
    • Muir Street
    • Old Wondai Road
  • $2.9M for the continuing reconstruction of Tingoora Chelmsford Road
  • $1M in major pavement repairs
  • $241K for Alice Street major repairs
  • $500K in shoulder resheeting
  • $550K in design works in advance of the 25/26 program

Footpath replacements and safety in and around schools will continue to be a priority with a $1.4M program backed by $920k in external funding being rolled out across the region including the following projects:

  • Tessmans Road Footpath Extension - $242K
  • Nanango SHS Footpath and Kerb Renewal - $300K
  • Murgon State School Footpath Renewal - $124K
  • Tanguringie  State School Carpark Extension and Foopath - $124K
  • St Patricks School Pedestrian Works - $195k
  • Nanango CBD Footpath Replacement - $228K
  • Nanango Brooklands Road Footpath - $26k
  • Bunya Avenue Footpath - $70k
  • Lamb Street Murgon Footpath Replacement - $103k

In total Council will spend in the order of $15.4M in capital works across the region in major road infrastructure repairs, renewals and upgrades.

Mayor Kathy Duff said “This term is very much about moving back to basics right across our region, and whilst we have a journey to improve our roads, this will be the first year where we focus particularly on our sealed network renewals. Road maintenance will be an area that we continue to improve and look to do more across the region with an increase in budget to approximately $7M.  We have a flood damage program of about $16M left to complete including some $4.5M in betterment projects and these will make a real difference across our community.”
