Illegal Dumping a Burden on All Ratepayers – Council Urges Residents to do the Right Thing!
Illegal dumping is the unlawful deposit of any type of waste material that is 200 litres or more in volume
and includes household rubbish, garden waste, building and commercial waste or other materials that damage our natural areas.
Illegal dumping may result in the release of pollutants into local waterways and spread pests and weeds species. Fibrous sheeting or old vinyl flooring containing asbestos can pose a serious health hazard to others. Illegal dumping is unsightly and detracts from the local amenity of a township and broader region.
Unlawful dumpsites can lower property values and attract other illegal activities as it may encourage others to dump more dangerous waste such as asbestos containing materials and unused chemicals.
The removal of illegally dumped material in our region is a jointly funded initiative by the South Burnett Regional Council and Queensland Department of Environment and Science’s Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program.
Council has several waste facilities across the region that accept various waste streams. Find your nearest facility here.
South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff urged all landowners and residents to do the right thing.
"Separate your waste in your trailer or vehicle boot before coming to a waste facility, recycle what you can, and dispose of all other waste in the general waste transfer bins provided. By doing the right thing, you’re helping keep waste management costs down and not burdening ratepayers with expensive and unnecessary clean-up costs”, Mayor Duff said.
If you see or become aware of any illegally dumped materials, you can contact Council on 07 4189 9100 or report it online by scanning the QR Code below.
