Calling All Future Leaders: Nominations Open for 2025 South Burnett Regional Youth Council

Back

South Burnett Regional Council is excited to announce that nominations are now open for the 2025 South Burnett Regional Youth Council.

We are calling on motivated young people aged 14 to 24 who live in the South Burnett region, including Cherbourg, to step forward and become part of this dynamic group.

Councillor Danita Potter, Chair of the Youth Council said "It’s vital that our youth have a seat at the table when it comes to shaping the future of the South Burnett region. By contributing their ideas and perspectives, they not only help create spaces that reflect their needs but also become active participants in our community's growth. This engagement fosters a sense of ownership and belonging among young people, ensuring that the development of the South Burnett is inclusive, forward-thinking, and sustainable. As a Council, we recognise the importance of these contributions in building a vibrant future for everyone."

The Youth Council will comprise up to 20 members and will be a diverse representation of the youth population across the region. This is a unique opportunity for young people to advocate for the needs and aspirations of their peers, while gaining valuable leadership and personal development skills.

As a Youth Councillor, members will:

  • Help organise youth and community events.
  • Participate in a leadership forum.
  • Take part in self-development activities.
  • Gain insight into how local government operates.

Council aims to ensure that the Youth Council reflects the diversity of young people in the region, considering factors such as sex, age, ethnicity, and residential location. Members over the age of 18 will be required to hold a current Working with Children Blue Card, and all Youth Councillors must adhere to the South Burnett Regional Council Code of Conduct.

Youth Councillors will be appointed as individuals, rather than as representatives of any specific area or organisation and will serve a one-year term. The selection process will involve an interview to ensure that all members are committed to making a positive difference in their communities.

Nominations close on Thursday 31 October 2024, so don’t miss out on this chance to make your voice heard and contribute to the future of the South Burnett.
