Air Scouring Program a Success
South Burnett Regional Council recently completed a five-week air scouring program of the Kingaroy reticulation system.
The program started at the western side of Kingaroy where the trunk water mains enter the network and then progressed to the extremities of the scheme. The CBD area, school zones and childcare areas were completed on weekends to minimise impacts to the community.
The program was very successful with large deposits of iron and manganese removed from the system. The air scouring also removes biofilm deposits and other inorganic deposits. Areas in the low level pressure zone contained the most deposits, and it was observed that further into the network, the iron and manganese was less prevalent.
Mayor Duff said “I am very pleased with the results and have had great feedback from Kingaroy residents about the improvement in their water quality.”
Approximately 100km of water main was cleaned during the program. Officers will recommend another program for next year’s budget to complete other schemes within the South Burnett.
Council thanks residents for their patience during these works and encourages residents to keep reporting discoloured water by contacting Council’s Water and Wastewater branch on 4189 9100 or email info@sbrc.qld.gov.au.
