Media Statement – 8 pm, 18 December 2024
The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has this evening moved from Alert to Stand Up given the ongoing rain that has been received over the region.
Due to the recent rain, our road network has already sustained damage and the LDMG is working together to coordinate a response to this rain event.
The intense rainfall has led to flash flooding and riverine flooding across the region. Council monitors over 3000 kilometres of road network and conditions will change regularly and quickly.
QPS advises residents not to drive or walk through floodwater and avoid unnecessary travel. If you must travel, please drive to the prevailing road conditions, adhere to signage and do not drive through floodwater.
Residents should not expect to see warnings signs for every crossing given the widespread impact of rainfall. The LDMG will continue to maintain the disaster dashboard as information is provided and will communicate further updates on major travel routes if conditions change.
Remember, residents should:
- In a life threatening emergency….Call Triple Zero (000)
- For Sandbagging / leaking roofs / roof damage - Download “SES assistance” app from android or apple if phone lines busy.
- 132 500 is the number to call if you need the assistance of the State Emergency Service (SES) in non-life-threatening emergency situations, during floods and storms or other similar events. As above, if the situation is life threatening, always call Triple Zero (000).
