Local Disaster Recovery Committee Update 1

Back

South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff met with representatives from the Department of Communities and the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA),

to collate information regarding services available to the South Burnett region following the recent flooding events.

The Recovery Committee is again meeting this week to report on the actions undertaken to support our rural, business, residential and community sectors.

The Recovery Committee is responsible for the coordinated process of response for supporting disaster affected communities and contains four sub-committees or working groups which include, Human Social, Economic, Environmental and Infrastructure.

Not all natural disasters are the same and the impacts may require a variety of approaches to address the issues.

Council, in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries and the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business, is promoting two surveys that cover the rural sector and the business community and the impacts of the recent rain event.

Residential and not-for-profit organisations are being asked to submit any information relating to any adverse effects from the recent rain event to Council so that the recovery committee can advocate on the impact and obtain support for our community.

Our focus will centre on a community led recovery and further updates will be regularly provided to keep our community informed of actions and outcomes.
