Indigenous Affairs Portfolio Report - 20 April 2016

Cherbourg Aboriginal Council has a new Mayor, Cr Arnold Murray and the Council team is made up of Cr Alana Purcell, Cr James Saltner, Cr Elvie Sandow and Cr Tom Langton. I have spoken to Mayor Murray and their CEO Warren Collins and I am in the process of organising a meeting and luncheon with their new Council team and Senior staff to meet with our Council and discuss their recycling plant and any other matters that may be of mutual interest.

The Reconciliation Fun Run is on Sunday May 15th. The walk/run will start at the Murgon Showgrounds and finish with loads of activities at Cherbourg. Registrations are now open and can be done on line or by phoning the Ration Shed. The cost is $20 for adults and $2 for children. The proceeds of the event will go towards the upkeep of the Ration Shed Museum. There were around 400 participants last year who walk and ran in the name of friendship, hope and new possibilities. It is only 7 klms and I hope there will be strong representation from our Council for this year’s event.
