New town and village entry signage showcases South Burnett

Back

Council is pleased to advise that the installation of new town and village entry signage, showcasing and connecting the region and its unique and diverse history and identity, has commenced.

Council had committed to upgrade the entry signage to towns and villages to showcase the South Burnett and the identity of communities. The previous signs had a mixture of colours and layouts and were not consistent with this identity. In addition, the signs had reached their end of useful life requiring replacement.

A total of 38 signs have been developed with each town or village having a unique background image to depict a theme of relevant significance, encompassing the rich history of the region. The design establishes connections to the diversity of the region, recognising the links to historic indigenous titles, economic drivers, heritage or its natural beauty. The signage includes the symbol of the Wakka Wakka people, the carpet python, as recognition of the traditional owners of the region. The total project budget covers both signage and installation costs.

Village signs are to be installed on the key approaches to the following communities: Benarkin; Bunya Mountains; Coolabunia; Crawford; Durong; Hivesville; Kumbia; Maidenwell; Memerambi; Moffatdale; Proston; Tingoora; and Wooroolin.

Town monument signs are to be installed on key approaches to the following locations: Blackbutt; Kingaroy; Murgon; Nanango; and Wondai.

In order to provide a safe work environment, the work areas will be controlled by signage as required. Motorists and pedestrians are requested to travel with extreme care, to drive to the prevailing road conditions and to adhere to signage. Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks you for your patience whilst works are in progress.

For further information, please contact Council’s Infrastructure team by phone on 4189 9100 or email info@southburnett.qld.gov.au.

Installation of the signage, funded through the Queensland Government’s 2019-21 Works for Queensland program (W4Q R3) and Council’s 2019-20 Capital Budget, is expected to be completed by 30 June 2020, weather permitting.

The town entry signage project has been funded by the Queensland Government’s

Works for Queensland program and South Burnett Regional Council.
