D’Aguilar Highway audio tactile line-marking installation

Back

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is carrying out a number of safety improvements during upgrade works on an 11km section of the D’Aguilar Highway, between Racecourse Drive and Rocky Creek Road

Project overview

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is carrying out a number of safety improvements during upgrade works on an 11km section of the D’Aguilar Highway, between Racecourse Drive and Rocky Creek Road.

The project aims to minimise the potential for crashes by alerting motorists when they stray out of their lanes, giving motorists more space to recover if they do stray from their lane, and improving sight distance around corners.

The works involve the installation of audio tactile line markings (ATLM), shoulder widening at select locations and the creation of clear zones.

Designated clear zones are the width outside the road which should be kept free of obstructions to allow errant vehicles the opportunity to recover without causing signifi cant damage to either the vehicles or the occupants.

Shoulder widening will also give drivers more of a chance to recover if they drift out of their lane. The installation of ATLM on the edge and centre lines will help alert drivers that they have left their lane.

The works are being delivered under the Safer Roads Sooner program, which aims to implement high benefit, cost effective, road engineering treatments that address known and potential crash locations.

Roadworks are scheduled to start in April and take about three months to complete, conditions permiting.

Construction impacts

RoadTek will be delivering the works which are expected to be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. However, we will make every eff ort to minimise the impact to motorists during these works.

Motorists are reminded to observe all warning signage when approaching the site and be aware of changed conditions, such as reduced speed limits and queued traffic, and adapt their driving behaviour accordingly.

The department thanks adjacent residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation while this important safety upgrade is completed.
